My baby started Preschool today at our church. It's just two days a week for a couple of hours, but still… my baby is not too much of a baby anymore. With that said, we're finally really getting started on this potty training thing with Owen. After fighting Charlie on it for so long, we decided we were better off really waiting for Owen to show interest and follow his cues. He's been using the potty and his new Pull-Ups® Cool & Learn® Training Pants for the past week or so and it's off to a great start!
If you follow us on Facebook or Instagram, you know we're in the process of moving. In the new house, we've made the bathroom in the basement the boys' bathroom. I am so excited to reveal the entire room to you soon (after I finish it up), but today I'm sharing a peek with you of the potty corner!
The toilet in the bathroom is in a little nook, which we're calling the potty corner in this post. Our potty corner has a magazine rack that holds some of our potty-training essentials. This is where we keep our Pull-Ups® Cool & Learn® Training Pants stocked in here and some favorite books to read while waiting. I've found that if you can keep them entertained, they'll sit there a little longer. Let's be honest, we take our phones and tablets to the toilet, right? Give the little ones something to do there, just like Mommy and Daddy!
The Cool & Learn Training Pants have a cooling sensation that helps with potty training and we'll take all the help we can get around here. Owen is able to pull them up like underwear, but if we need to take them off because of an accident, I can use the easy-open sides. Owen loves that one of his favorite characters is on his training pants!
I love that I can pick up everything I need for my little ones at Walmart, with prices starting at just $8.97 for Pull-Ups! Grab a coupon for $2 off 1 package of Pull-Ups (or GoodNites) at Walmart 8/28-10/8 to save even more!
Speaking of characters, Pull-Ups has created some characters that show how different each child is during the potty training process. After looking at the characters, I think I've decided Owen is a Bear. He's pretty flexible and easy going, but he does like his routine. He's super friendly, sweet, and relaxed when meeting new people and trying new things. Find out which type potty training character your child is at this link. There are different activities you can download for your child based on which potty training character they are.
Oh, and don't forget about rewards! Owen does great with rewards, so I picked up a bunch of party favors and other small toys, stickers, and lollipops at Walmart and put them in a plastic canister with a lid. This sits in a basket on top of the toilet. If he goes in the potty, he gets a reward! Of course, you can also do stickers and then after so many stickers you get something from the jar.
I picked up a stool from a yard sale and knew I needed to give it a little makeover for the ocean themed bathroom we're doing for the boys. It's so easy to personalize something like a stool with just some paint and wall decals from Walmart. I used some of the wall decals for the stool and we'll place the rest around the room.
Being completely honest here, I intended on doing blue on the steps and white on the backs of the steps. I did not wait for the paint to dry and ended up with some blue paint in my white section and then white in my blue section. Instead of freaking out about it, I went with it and I'm so happy I did. I love the way the blue turned out, almost like little waves. If you're a bit more of a perfectionist, I'd suggest taping off the sides and letting things dry before moving on. I did not tape off the sides and you can see that. I'm okay with things not being perfect, I may even like it better that way!
Once the blue and white background dried, I painted Owen's feet white and placed them on top in a wide “V” shape. Then I drew in the rest of the anchor. I think it turned out pretty nice if I do say so!
Just add some of the wall decals and spray with a clear coat and you're all set!

I love the feet anchor! How creative! And your son is absolutely adorable. I like the way the blue and white look like the ocean waves! #client
