We’ve successfully completed our first week of school! We are all loving it so far. Charlie was so excited to go to school on Saturday. We had to explain that he has school Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Saturday is a free day and Sunday is church day.
Today I want to share a few tips for packing lunch!
Take Them Shopping
When you’re picking up lunch supplies for the kids, it really helps if they are shopping with you. We all know it’s easier to shop without kids, but if they help you pick out what’s going in their lunch, they will be more willing to eat it. No one wants to pack a lunch that the kid won’t eat. That’s wasted time and money.
At Save-A-Lot, I can let Charlie pick up what he wants without it breaking the bank. You can grab all of your sandwich essentials, drinks, snacks, and fruit at great prices. They have their own store brand as well as national brands. Some of their store brands that are great for packing in lunches include Tipton Grove™ variety fruit cups, Coburn Farms® String Cheese & Yogurts, Bramley’s® Jelly & Spreads, Panner® Peanut Butter and Hazel Nutter, J. Higgs® Crackers, Chips, and snacks, Kiggins™ Cereal, and Morning Delight® Toaster Pastries.
This week we snagged seedless grapes for just .99/lb! Of course, your prices may vary by location.
Also, notice that car he’s holding? Being good while shopping with Mommy sometimes means you get something extra.
Pack the Night Before
Mornings are busy, right? One way to make mornings a little less stressful is to pack lunch the night before. I actually have Charlie help me pack his lunch before bed. He’ll pick out what he wants and we get it all set for the morning.
If everything that you’re packing is shelf-stable, even better! You can pack their lunch and place it with their book bag in your designated spot so everything is ready to grab in the morning. This usually isn’t the case with us, but I can pack everything in his lunch bag and put the whole thing in the refrigerator.
Also, when you pack lunch the night before, you have the time and energy to make it a little extra special.
I love that I can pick up great fresh produce at Save-A-Lot and we’re able to sneak some fun into our lunch routine!
Make Your Own Single Serve Packs
Those single serve packs are so convenient, but you can save some serious money if you make your own. Buy a big pack of cookies or crackers and put them in snack-size bags! You can do this once a week and it’ll be just as easy as buying the single serve box.
Certain items like single serve yogurts are always a must on our list though!
