Happy Valentine’s Day! Today, all the kids are having parties at school, exchanging their treats and cards. The holiday is really about all the little acts that show you care. Of course, I think these little acts of love should be shared every day!
Being a mommy to little boys is full of so much fun. Not only do you get to see them grow and teach them manners for how to treat others, but you also get to be their first love in life as well. Building that bond with your son is such an important framework for their life. Think of how awesome it is to be able to spend one-on-one time with your little one. It excites them, gives them something to look forward to and helps them understand the value of being with a parent and doing fun things.
There are so many different ways to spend that extra one-on-one time with your son. Think outside the box and have fun with it! If you are looking for some suggestions to get started, here are some tips for some fun mommy and son date ideas!
1. Go see a ballgame together.
Sports are a great way to have some bonding time! If your child loves sports, join him in attending a game. Surprise him with tickets for you and him, and go cheer on the home team. Top it off with treating him to dinner from the stadium as well. Nothing screams mommy/son date night better than a hot dog dinner and a game.
2. Game it up.
Does your son love everything video games? Carve out a night to just binge-play with him. See if you can rent a new game that he hasn’t played before and have fun trying to figure it out together. Take turns trying different levels and talking out unique strategies! Order in some carry-out yummies as well to complete the “stay at home” date night fun.
3. Play a round of putt-putt.
Who doesn’t love putt-putt? It’s simple, it’s fun and it’s easy for all ages. I do recommend throwing out the scorecards and just playing for fun though.
4. “Eat your dessert first” date.
Sometimes…we just need to have that ice cream before dinner. Who says that dates have to be an all-night event? Ask your son if he feels like joining you on an adventure, and then hit the road heading to the nearest ice cream place. Splurge on a couple of cones for you and him, and have fun doing it! A mini sporadic date can be so much fun.
5. “Pick an idea from a hat” date night.
This date night is all about variety. Each of you writes down about four or five ideas of what you want to do together, then put them in a hat. Mix ’em all up, and then each of you draws one. Your date night is planned, just like that!
6. Interact with him and his action figures.
Maybe your son just wants to play with some of his toys with you and use his imagination. How awesome of an opportunity to set with him, and learn how he imagines and sees the world. Let him lead the storylines and you just play along. Have fun getting into character with him!
7. Remote Control Car Racing.
If you don’t have any remote control cars in your possession, swing by the store on the way home and grab a couple. Then, surprise your son with his new gift to use for your next date night together. Head outdoors and see who can race faster. Have fun creating unique obstacle courses and challenging each other to the most daring twists and turns possible!
8. Play catch at the park.
Sometimes the best dates, are the most simple. Grab your mitts and head to the park. Playing catch is a great way to enjoy nature, enjoy each other and have time to talk to each other as well. Not into baseball? Kick around a soccer ball!
To end the date, snow cones or an ice cream cone are a must to cool yourselves down after all the outside activity!
9. Make a special treat.
Whipping up a special treat with mom in the kitchen is not just something for girls! Boys love cooking and baking just as much! Check out these dessert ideas from Juicy Juice: Apple Crumble Fruit Bars, Tres Juice Cake, or Oranges & Cream No-Bake Cheesecake in a Jar. Have fun in the kitchen making dessert and then even more fun enjoying it!
No matter what kind of activity we choose for our mother/son date, we almost always have extra snacks with us! We really love the no-sugar Juicy Juice Juicy Waters.
Enjoy the possibilities of date nights with your son. They grow up so fast and it’s important to treasure the time with them now, rather than wait till it’s too late. Setting up fun, unique, and consistent date days for you and him to enjoy not only builds up a tradition to look forward to but it also then provides that special time for you and him to catch up and just enjoy having a bit of alone time. Enjoy the time with your little one, and see if any of these mommy and son date nights are a hit!
