Our Relay for Life event was this past Friday into Saturday. I dropped my munchkins off with my mother-in-law and headed out to work on setting up around 1:30pm. Tom picked them up and brought them to Relay when he was done work. The actual event didn’t start until 6pm, but it takes a lot to get the whole event together. Our local paper, The Cecil Daily, covered the event a little. My mom is the chairperson, so I seem to get roped into helping more than I really have time to, but I don’t mind- it’s for a great cause. As Charlie and Owen get older, they’ll be helping Mom and Mommom out! Start ‘em out young!

Circle of Hope Team 2014

At Relay for Life, we walk ALL night, because cancer never sleeps. In the middle of the night it gets really cold and damp and you’re tired and start to get cranky. It’s really hard not to whine about being so cold and tired, but I am blessed that I haven’t experienced cancer personally. In the grand scheme of things, being cold and tired for one night is nothing.

In the middle of the night, Mom and I played a couple games and we did a scavenger hunt as a team. I played musical chairs around 2am for 18+. That was definitely fun and I came in 4th. Before the Tom took the boys home for the night, Charlie and I played musical chairs (apparently is was for 15+ at that time, but he wasn’t going to be there when they were doing under 15). He had fun and thought it was great!

During the luminaria ceremony, HOPE is displayed in the bleachers for all to see. During the middle of the night, that HOPE is changed to CURE.

You can also see the DJ here. We need some music and entertainment to keep us going all night!

This year was a great event. The entertainment co-chairs did an amazing job coming up with activities to keep everyone involved all night. This was also the first year that we had enough people on our individual team that Mom and I could wander around and see what all the teams had, play some games, and really take part in the big event instead of manning our team tent all night.

What an amazing event – it must be such a powerful experience to be a part of – and to actually witness! Such a nice thing for you to be involved in!
