Did you know that 1 in 5 kids in America suffers from hunger?

Kids should never have to worry about being hungry, especially during the summer. Summer is meant to be full of fun and play! The Hungry for Happiness mobile tour will visit Philadelphia this week to help raise awareness about the issue of childhood hunger and increase participation in free summer meals sites for kids located in the area.

Kids need to eat year-round, but only 18.7 percent of children in Pennsylvania who rely on free or reduced-price school lunches currently participate in a summer meal program. The Arby’s Foundation, the charitable arm of Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc., in partnership with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign, is committed to helping kids get the food they need.

This summer, families can find free Summer Meals for kids in their community by texting FOOD to 877-877.

On Thursday, August 14th from 5pm to 8pm the Hungry for Happiness mobile tour is stopping at the Norwood Arby’s to raise money for Loaves and Fishes. Twenty percent of sales during the party will go directly to Loaves and Fishes, a local food bank that supplies food to those in need. During the event, kids can take part in fun summer activities such as hula-hoop contests, tug of war, bean bag toss, basketball and other family-friendly games to get kids moving.

It breaks my heart that so many children go hungry in the United States. I did check and no, Arby’s will not be coming to anywhere near where I live. I am happy that Arby’s is trying to do what they can.

It’s so sad that anyone has to go hungry. It’s so great that big companies like Arby’s try to help out, though!

i checked the tour schedule and it looks like they were in my area two months ago. I am surprised there was no press coverage for it.

I am glad there are options out there for children who may not get to eat otherwise. I was just reading our stats for our school district. 65% qualify for free lunch and 15% qualify for reduced. That’s just sad that only 20% can afford full priced lunches at school.
