How is bedtime at your house? Do you have a routine?

Because of our crazy schedule these days, our routine has switched up a bit, and it’s not as strict as it once was.

Our routine lately consists of showers or baths (if they need one), a snack, brushing teeth, a bedtime story, and then off to bed!

Sometimes we read stories to the boys, sometimes Charlie reads to Owen, and sometimes Owen just flips through a book and tells us a story to go along with it. No matter how it’s done – there’s always a bedtime story in some shape or form.

Even with all those activities like school, soccer, karate, scouts, and youth group, these kids still are not falling asleep as easily as I think they should. I mean, I’m exhausted – they should be, too.

At the end of the day, we really don’t stress too much about “making” them go to sleep. They’re kids. They’ll finally fall asleep and tomorrow will be a brand new day with the same kind of craziness.

If you’re looking for a new favorite bedtime book, you definitely need to grab a copy of Sleepy, the Goodnight Buddy! Written by Drew Daywalt, author of The Day the Crayons Quit and its sequel, The Day the Crayons Came Home, and illustrated by Scott Campbell, it’s sure to be a hit at bedtime.

Sleepy, the Goodnight Buddy puts a hilarious spin on a classic bedtime story. We’ve all been there – the kid just won’t go to sleep and does everything possible to delay bedtime. Roderick’s parents give him a stuffed animal to cuddle with and help him wind down, but … Sleepy (the stuffed animal) turns out to be a bit high-maintenance. Even Roderick gets a little fed-up with Sleepy’s antics.

As a parent, it’s super fun to read and see a kid get annoyed by someone delaying bedtime. It’s a nice little switch up with the stuffed animal becoming the “kid” that is always trying to come up with another reason to put off sleep.

The kids think it’s funny, and maybe they’ll even see the irony in it.

I said that part of our bedtime routine consists of a snack. Think your kids would like a milkshake?

Yum.

We whipped up a super simple Honey Lavender Berry Milkshake that’s perfect for bedtime!

Lavender has been known to relieve stress, improve mood, and promote restful sleep. That’s what we’re all looking for, right?
