There are many vacation spots in the Mid-Atlantic region, and there are some great vacation spots near a lake. Whether you are into swimming, hiking or boating, there is something for everyone. You can also choose lodgings from rustic cabins or camping all the way to a resort-type lodge. Here are some great lake spots you can consider.
Deep Creek Lake- Maryland
While all of Maryland’s lakes are man-made, Deep Creek Lake is Maryland’s largest, with almost 4,000 acres of water and 69 miles of lakeshore. If you like fishing, you can catch Walleye, Perch and both Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass.
You can have jet skis and power boats at Deep Creek Lake, but there are also quiet spots for kayaking or canoeing. Summertime is all about the water and activities include tubing, swimming and water skiing.
There are hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, as well as Vacation Rentals available.
Lake Fairfax Park- Virginia
Close to the Potomac and Washington, D.C, Lake Fairfax Park in Northern Virginia has fun for all ages and is a great family getaway.
There is a water park, Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole with many interactive features. There is also an 18 acre lake where you can rent pedal boats or go on a boat tour. There is also great fishing here.
The campgrounds at Lake Fairfax Park are open year round and have over 130 campsites, a Bathhouse with showers, sinks and toilets.
Roer’s Zoofari is less than a half mile away, and there is a museum just over a mile from the park.
Lums Pond- Delaware
There are no natural lakes in Delaware, but plenty of fun water spots do exist. The largest freshwater lake in the state is Lums Pond. Lums Pond is great for boating and fishing adventures.
Lums Pond State Park is almost 1800 acres built around Lums Pond. While this is not a swimming lake, you can rent row boats, sailboats, kayaks and canoes. There are also pedal boats if you just want a leisurely afternoon taking in the scenery.
For fishing, the lake has Striped Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Catfish and Bass, just to name a few. You can fish from the bank or on a boat.
There are many trails in the area, and horseback riding, too. The park has campsites, and even Yurts! The nearby town of Bear does offer more traditional accommodations.
Lake Wallenpaupack – Pennsylvania
Located in the Poconos, Lake Wallenpaupack is a man-made lake over 5700 acres in size. The lake has over 50 miles of uninterrupted shoreline.
There are 6 public recreation areas here. There are plenty of walking trails and forest nearby. You can go kayaking, parasailing, swimming or water skiing at Lake Wallenpaupack. You can also take a boat cruise around the lake, which is really lovely in Autumn. There are also nearby riding stables.
There are family campgrounds, cabins and boutique hotels in the area, depending on what type of accommodations you prefer.
Have you been to one of these great vacation spots?
