We took a trip to Ireland last year, but it was just us. We knew immediately the kids would love it, so this time we brought the kids to Ireland! Day 1 We left the house Monday, August 14th about noon and arrived at Newark International Airport at about 2:30, breezed through security, and sat […]

It seems that times have changed and not as many families are sitting down to enjoy meals together anymore. There are so many things pulling families away from the table, they need a reason to sit down at the table together. As a mom to two boys, I can tell you that there are several important reasons you should have family dinners together. Here we go.
TIME GOES TOO FAST
Charlie is in 1st grade now and gone all day. Owen won’t be far behind. It sounds so cliché and everyone says it, but it’s true: time flies by. You can blink and your kids are already running around, playing sports, begging to play video games, and running off to their friend’s house.
The days are long, but the years are short and I am a living testament to those words. I love my boys and (usually) wish I could keep them little forever, but time seems to go super quickly.
LIFE IS BUSY
I know that life gets busy, especially when your family is in the thick of playing a sport, involved in scouts, schoolwork, church and what seems like a million other things. Trust me, both the boys play soccer, we’re involved at church, I’m going back to school, and we’re getting ready to start scouts! However, this gives us more of a reason to sit down and enjoy a meal together.
Family meals are that one thing that happens every day. Even in this season of busyness, you know you can sit down and enjoy a meal together, as a family.
YOU KNOW WHAT THEY’RE EATING
I like knowing that my family is eating a good meal. I’m a very square meal type of person: meat, starch, veggie and usually a fruit at every meal. I need to know that the kids (and the hubby) are getting enough of what they need in their bellies. And it does not have to be fancy! Remember all that craziness that we have going on with our schedule? I don’t have time to spend an hour making dinner every night.
One of my favorite go-to dinners is chicken nuggets! Seriously, who complains about chicken nuggets? I always have Tyson® chicken nuggets in the freezer ready to toss in the oven for a quick and delicious dinner!
I stock up on my specially marked Tyson chicken (raised with no antibiotics ever) products at my local Food Lion. Moms can feel good about serving all Tyson chicken no antibiotics ever products to their families.
The people who make Tyson chicken have a strong heritage, they’ve been raising chickens since 1935! All specially marked Tyson chicken (including nuggets, strips, Any’tizers® snacks and drumsticks) is raised with no antibiotics ever and 100% all natural ingredients (no artificial ingredients and minimally processed).
To make a complete meal, I make up some potatoes and a veggie. It’s really that simple!
FAMILY MEALS BRING EVERYONE TOGETHER
One of my favorite reasons to have family meals together is because it creates togetherness in my family. There are a lot of things I’m relaxed about, but I want my kids to know their family is there for them and we are one unit. Family meals around our table create family unity that you can only get by spending time together.
IT’S SOMETHING THE KIDS WON’T FORGET
Like any mom, I want to create awesome memories with my kids. I want my kids to be able to look back at family dinners and think, “Wow, this was such an important part of my childhood.” Family dinners do happen around here and they will continue to happen. Even if we are busy with sports and everything else we take on, we’ll have family dinners earlier or later. It’s all about making them a priority and fitting them into our lives.
When it comes to having family dinners together, make it a priority. I know it can be hard to make it a priority, but it really does help your relationship with your children in the long run. Do you have family meals together?
