I need to start out saying that I'm a sucker for sports movies. And I can't really think of a movie that Kevin Costner has done that I haven't liked, all the way from The Postman to Tin Cup. When I saw the first previews for McFarland USA, I knew this was another one I would add to my collection.

SYNOPSIS:

In the tradition of Disney sports movies comes “McFarland, USA” based on a true story of underdogs triumphing over tremendous obstacles. This heartwarming drama follows novice runners who strive to build a cross-country team under Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner) in their predominantly Latino high school.

Everyone has a lot to learn about each other, but when Coach realizes the boys’ exceptional running ability, things change. Beyond their talent, it’s the power of family, commitment to each other and work ethic that transform them into champions — helping them achieve their own American dream.

This is one of those movies that you cry at the end. Well, maybe not everyone. But, if you're the crying while watching a movie kind- this one will get you. I love an underdog story and this is one on multiple levels, not just the athletic part.

The boys are too young to really watch this one, so it was a Mommy and Daddy movie night. My favorite! If your kids are in grade school though, this is definitely a good one for the entire family to sit down and watch together!

The fact that it's based on a true story makes it even better! I always love reading all the “where are they now” type writing at the end of a movie.

I love true stories. This would be a great movie for the whole family, but especially good for children to learn about resilience and overcoming obstacles. Thank-you for the information & review. 🙂
