We took a trip to Ireland last year, but it was just us. We knew immediately the kids would love it, so this time we brought the kids to Ireland! Day 1 We left the house Monday, August 14th about noon and arrived at Newark International Airport at about 2:30, breezed through security, and sat […]
My Super Kid Started School

Charlie started Pre-K on Tuesday! That means that he’ll be in school five days a week for about three hours a day this year. That’s a BIG deal!
Since it’s our home school with the public schools, that means that he also gets to ride a bus to and from school. To be completely honest, that part scares the crap out of me. He doesn’t sit still long enough for me to feel comfortable with him riding the bus, but we did it!
Let’s back up a minute though. Tuesday morning we had to drive him to school because we had our conference with his teacher right before school started. He was seriously bummed that he didn’t get to ride the bus. But, to make matters worse, I became the worst mom ever on his first day. The teacher informed us during our meeting that the kids eat lunch there. I had absolutely no idea. I figured that since they’re done at 11:50, lunch is not included in their day. Wrong. We did not pack a lunch for him nor did we have any money on hand for him to buy lunch that day and I thought he would be fine to eat when he got home from school. Turns out every other kid ate lunch at school and he just sat there. He was so sad and upset with me.
So, we’ll now be packing lunch and occasionally buying as a special treat.
Today is Charlie’s first lunch at school! It consists of crackers, a juice box, a small peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a cookie and a Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusion! We had the yummy Peach Mango after school on Wednesday, so his lunch includes the Apple Pear Watermelon flavor. I know the boys will also love the Cherry Fruit Trio! All 3 flavors offer fruit in a fruit and vegetable juice! Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusions are available at your local Walmart starting September 8, 2015.
The bus home is just Pre-K kids, so my anxiety is a little less with the afternoon drop-off. There’s an aide on the bus that calls each child’s name at their designated stop so they know when to get off. The first day, I had a small panic attack because when he didn’t come off the school bus. The driver told me to come on up and get him. The aide was calling his name and he was just sitting there. I said “didn’t you hear her call your name?” and he said “oh, I didn’t know”. Climbing on a small school bus holding a squirmy Owen was not how I wanted to end our first day of school.
Day 2 was so much better! We all stood at the bus stop together and watching Charlie board the bus and drive away. As Owen and I were standing waiting for the bus to drop Charlie back off, I was really unsure if he would come off on his own or not.
He did! He was the first one off the bus at our stop and my mommy heart was so proud! We walked back to the house talking about his day while holding hands. These are definitely the days I’ll remember.
After we got back to the house we had a quick lunch (because Wednesdays are short days = no lunch at school): macaroni and cheese and a Del Monte Fusions cup! We sat outside enjoying the nice day.
The new Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusions are perfect sidekick for my super kid! They include lightly sweetened vegetable and fruit juice inside each fruit cup, creating a delicious snack! Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusions are a snack I can feel good about feeding the boys because they include one combined serving of fruit and veggies in every cup! They’ll help nourish and energize them, not that my boys need any more energy.
You can share your kid’s super moments and participate in the Share the Super Sweeps (running from Aug. 10 through Sept. 18, 2015) for a chance to win prizes from Del Monte!
