We took a trip to Ireland last year, but it was just us. We knew immediately the kids would love it, so this time we brought the kids to Ireland! Day 1 We left the house Monday, August 14th about noon and arrived at Newark International Airport at about 2:30, breezed through security, and sat […]
5 Passions

This is part 8 of 30 Things My Kids Should Know About Me.
I had a hard time actually deciding on 5 passions. These are in no particular order and aren’t necessarily the 5 most passionate things, but they’re the 5 I thought of and listed.
Family- Family is super important to me. I grew up very close to my family and hope that my boys do as well. As of right now, they are. I feel that if you don’t have family, you don’t really have anything. I have no idea what I would do without my family. Any of them.
CHD Awareness- If you know anything about my family, you know why this is important to me. Charlie was born with a CHD. By the grace of God, this was detected and he had surgery to repair his VSD when he was 7 weeks old.
Breastfeeding- I think everyone should at least try to breastfeed. Our bodies are meant to do this amazing thing: feed our children. I realize some people can not physically do it, but the number of women that say they “can’t” is so much higher than those that really can do breastfeed. I believe that Charlie did so well because I pumped for him for 6 months. It was exhausting, but it’s what he needed.
Extended Rear-facing car seats- Charlie is still rear-facing. He just turned 3 and I intend on leaving him rear-facing until his current seat no longer allows for it. People constantly say that their children can’t rear-face because they’re cramped and uncomfortable, but that’s just not true. Charlie will pass out in the car. Obviously, he can’t be too uncomfortable.
Food- I love food. I love to eat it. I love to cook it. I love to smell it. I’m far from a chef, but I do like to cook and I like to hear my food is enjoyed. There’s just something awesome about feeding the people you love (see above: breastfeeding!).

I respectfully disagree about my child and his rear facing carseat. He was 3′ tall at 2, so we changed him. He’s already heavier than his 5 year old cousin! I do agree that while the breast is best, you have to do what works for you!

I totally agree about the rear facing. God forbid there be a horrible accident, but i’ll take a broken leg over a broken back, neck or worse every time. I’ve seen so many of the videos.

I adopted and still tried to find a milk bank for my infant. I have so many relatives that think breastfeeding is “gross,” I just don’t get it. The whole reason my parents geneaation didn’t do it was because the formula companies outright lied and said it was not healthy. Anything for a buck in this world.
thanks Mitch

That is so awesome! Good for you, dad! My mother-in-law was a breastfeeder, but my mom says I was just fine with formula. And that may be so, but breast really is best and if you can, you should! And yes, I’m so glad rules have changed on what formula companies can say!
Krystyn says
I’m with you! My 25 month old is still rear-facing (I didn’t do it long with my older two, but didn’t know any better) and obviously my 4 month old. All of my girls were breastfed/are breastfed. I can’t judge anybody that doesn’t. I just wish there was more support for people because it’s not always easy.

What a cool idea! Posts like this will be so special to our kiddos when they get older. I may have to steal the idea. These are five really awesome passions.

I love this blog post concept (posting things about yourself that our kids can see later.) I was extremely passionate about breastfeeding and we made it 25 months. We went just over two years on the rear facing seat before turning our son to forward facing. I definitely don’t judge those that do things different than me, but I wish that there was more support and general knowledge on some of the topics you mentioned.
Christina Shirley says
25 months is amazing! And 2 years rear-facing is much longer than most! You go momma!

Those are all great passions to have-they make up a part of who you are 🙂
I’m a big food lover myself. While I’m not the biggest cook I hope to learn more about cooking and food in the future so I can enjoy feeding the people I love as well!
Virginia @thatbaldchick says
I turned my oldest two around about 18 months. When we know better, we do better, right? My 1 year old will remain rear facing until she hits the weight limit for rear facing.

I agree about breastfeeding. I know Moms who can but won’t because it’s too much of a pain. 🙁
TheNewClassy says
I say seat your kids in the car seat however you want as long as their safe. If he is sleeping, he is probably pretty comfy. 🙂
