My Home Improvement List for the New House

We all have that list of things that we live with right now, but would some day like to change about our house. Check out our home improvement wish list.

We’ve shared a few things about our new house already, but today I want to share some of the things I want to fix up at some point. We all have that list of things that we live with right now, but would some day like to change about our house.

As you can see, we actually have a yard and trees now, which is perfect for the boys to run around and play. We even had Owen’s birthday party here this past weekend (more on that another day).

Let’s start with the outside. Most of the windows are over twenty years old and could definitely use an updating. The roof also needs redone. While the siding on the house right now is fine, it would also be on the wish list. I think Tom said something before about wanting thinner siding or something like that, like the slats would be skinnier (I hope that made sense).

When you take the sidewalk around to the back of the house, the sidewalk is at a really weird angle and makes me nervous with the boys running (or anyone walking when it’s slick). I guess it probably would need to be torn up and the ground leveled out a bit before putting the sidewalk back down.

The basement entrance could really use some love. If given the opportunity, I’d love to really spruce it up and get that concrete fixed and make it a nice hang out spot. Who doesn’t love a great covered porch?

As for the inside of the house, everything is obviously livable right now, but there are some things that make my home improvement wish list.

The kitchen needs the most attention. The cabinets are a bit outdated and some of them have been stripped of the laminate on the inside (don’t ask me how, it’s weird). And the countertops are a mauve or pink color. It’s not as bad now that the walls are not the same color (we painted them white), but I’d much rather have a neutral color on my countertops.

Don’t mind the mess, this is real life, folks. We do not have our dishwasher installed yet and I have not decided on a home for everything, so there is extra on the counter.

Now, I feel like most homes have central air these days, but our new home does not. That’s okay for now. We have this beauty built into the side of the dining room. It’s really one of the strangest things I’ve ever encountered. I guess when we add central air or even replace this, we will need to fill in the whole in the house with a custom built window.

Whether you’re remodeling your home or consolidating debt, Capital One is here to help with simply smarter tools that help you choose the right option for your situation. We have not used Capital One’s Home Equity products yet, but it’s definitely something we’ll be looking into in the future.

Just by visiting capitalone.com/home-equity, you can get your customized rate offer and estimated loan amount (with no impact to your credit score) and even begin the application process – it’s simple and there are no burdensome fees.

From contractor financing to construction loans or borrowing from your 401(k), there are numerous ways to turn your dream project into a reality.

In Washington D.C. (less than 2 hours from our house), 76 percent of homeowners indicated they would renovate areas of their home if they had better financial means to do so. Honestly, who doesn’t have some things they’d like to do around the house? We all struggle figuring out how to pay for it though.

Whether you’re looking to get that new gourmet kitchen, upgrade your backyard patio or add an addition, with a home equity line of credit, you can start your “someday” project today. What are some projects you have on your wish list?

Contractors are also great help in narrowing the range of materials to be used and in deciding on minute details like whether you should have suspended ceiling panels for the project. Doing this will surely help you save a great deal of money.

It looks like you have a lot of work to do 🙂

But I’m sure it will amazing once it’s finished. You should try to do some DIY in order to save some money.

Good luck with your wish list 🙂

What type of siding did you end up going with? We are starting to upgrade the exterior of our home and considering HardiePlank. Any thoughts?

This is my wish list, too! As to the basement entrance, ours could really use some love as well. So, I definitely know this feeling.

We don’t have a mosquito problem but I do have a problem with wasps in my backyard no matter what I do.
