We took a trip to Ireland last year, but it was just us. We knew immediately the kids would love it, so this time we brought the kids to Ireland! Day 1 We left the house Monday, August 14th about noon and arrived at Newark International Airport at about 2:30, breezed through security, and sat […]

Have your kids experienced root beer floats? I’m embarrassed to say it but until this week, my children had not had a classic root beer float.
I grew up super close to my grandparents (the ones that now live in Kentucky). Grandparents are supposed to spoil the kids, right? That was true for my grandparents. We had tons of root beer floats at their house throughout our childhood. My grandparents have always kept glasses in the freezer for a nice chilled glass. I think it just makes the whole thing even better.
Like many things from my childhood though, the memories fade and we forget about those little things.
When I saw last week, I grabbed some to help recreate some of those fun memories with my own kids.
ShopRite is one of our go-to grocery stores because I can always find a ton of great deals. Find your nearest location with the .
And now that it’s summer, these kids seem to need 12 meals a day! I think it’s safe to say that we’ll be at the grocery store pretty often the next few months.
A&W is a nostalgic way to satisfy cravings, share a treat with the family, and create happy memories together. This year actually marks the 100th birthday of A&W Root Beer!
3 keys to a great root beer float:
1. chilled mugs from the freezer
2. the best root beer you can find (we prefer A&W Root Beer)
3. a great vanilla ice cream
To make a classic root beer float, you just scoop some vanilla ice cream into your chilled mug. I suggest 3 or more scoops of ice cream.
Now, fill the rest of your mug by pouring in your A&W root beer!
If you’re feeling fancy, you can top with some whipped cream and a cherry, but I’m happy with them as is.
We spend quite a bit of time just hanging out in the backyard at home. We have a great play set for the kids to swing and climb on. As for mom and dad, we can be found relaxing in our chairs or running around with the boys.
I know making root beer floats is going to be a new favorite treat to enjoy in the evenings when we’re spending some family time outside.
When I saw these little mason jar type glasses with handles, I knew they’d be perfect. Honestly, they worked out better anyway because the kids can carry them with the handles. And, if we’re being honest – I need a handle to hold onto as well.
National Root Beer Float Night is August 6th, 2019, so go stock up on A&W Root Beer to celebrate the holiday with your friends and family!
