We took a trip to Ireland last year, but it was just us. We knew immediately the kids would love it, so this time we brought the kids to Ireland! Day 1 We left the house Monday, August 14th about noon and arrived at Newark International Airport at about 2:30, breezed through security, and sat […]

My sister is expecting her first baby this summer. I love being able to give her useful tips and tricks. One of my best tips is actually perfect for a gift for a new mom.
The most used item in our home, especially when the boys were babies, is probably the diaper changing basket. We have a bin that is kept right in the living room with all of our diaper changing necessities. We spend most of our time in the living room, so that’s where it lives now. When they were still babies, there was one in their room and our room as well.
The most important things in a diaper changing basket are the diapers and wipes! We love our Huggies® Little Snugglers and Huggies® Natural Care wipes.
Huggies Little Snugglers are designed to help keep baby’s skin clean and healthy. I love the little wetness indicator (in diaper sizes N-3) and the GentleAbsorb* Liner (sizes N-2) that has tiny, soft pillows that provide a cushiony layer of protection between your baby’s skin and the mess. That’s all we really try to do as moms, right? Keep our little ones safe and clean, right?
When gifting, I try to grab size 2 or larger because Mom will end up with a bunch of newborn and size 1 diapers.
When it comes to wipes, I need something that’s soft and strong. I know us moms have strong stomachs, but I don’t need anything extra on my hands when I’m trying to clean a baby’s bottom. Huggies® Natural Care Wipes are perfect for my boys and their sensitive skin because they’re soft, but with their TripleClean* Layers, they’re thick enough to handle any mess!
You can pick up both at Walmart for less than $12 total!
Now that you have the diapers and wipes taken care of, it’s time to add the fun stuff! This is where you’re really going to let your personality (and the mom you’re giving this gift to) shine! If you’ve changed a baby, you know how difficult it can be sometimes. They don’t want to lie still and are constantly trying to get away. I love keeping a few small toys and books in our diaper changing basket. Try not to get anything too big or anything that dangles too long. We don’t want it getting in the way of changing the diaper.
Pick up a nice basket to store everything in. The one I grabbed from Walmart is about $13 and it has a little cloth liner and handles on the sides (making it easier for mom to grab). I wanted to keep it neutral so I really love the dark wicker-like material of the basket. It will fit in perfectly in any room mom needs it.
Inside our basket, I also added a small powder and diaper cream (get whatever brands you would recommend).
I try not to buy a bunch of clothes for baby showers, but I did toss a couple of onesies into our Baby Diaper Changing Gift Basket. If you have a blow-out situation when you’re in the living room changing baby’s diaper, you don’t want to have to run to their room to grab a clean outfit. I suggest keeping a couple of simple onesies in the diaper changing basket so you’re always prepared for a quick change. My sister lives in Kentucky, so I added a cute Kentucky onesie.
Having a basket full of diaper changing necessities in a basket ready to grab at all times is a crucial to keeping our baby’s skin taken of. A clean and dry baby is a happy baby!
Do you have any great gift ideas or tips on keeping baby’s skin clean and healthy?

The diaper changing basket or “command center” as we call it in our house was so essential for our day to day routine and with having limited space in our townhouse it was a great way to corral the clutter.

You’re so right about how important the diaper changing basket is. It makes for a great gift for grandparents, too! I would make my basket just like yours and include my homemade diaper cream. I would have never thought of keeping a book in there, but babies need to keep busy when they are getting changed. Good tip! #client
