We took a trip to Ireland last year, but it was just us. We knew immediately the kids would love it, so this time we brought the kids to Ireland! Day 1 We left the house Monday, August 14th about noon and arrived at Newark International Airport at about 2:30, breezed through security, and sat […]
The Last Weekend of Summer 2017

Due to our extended Kentucky adventure, this summer flew by even quicker than usual. We had not really been anywhere as a family all summer and I wanted one last bit of summer fun.
Our last weekend before school (thanks to Maryland starting after Labor Day) was packed with fun! And thanks to Mazda dropping us a loaner, we did it all in a 2017 Mazda6 Grand Touring.
On Friday night, we attended a Wilmington Blue Rocks game as guests of LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia. LEGO stuff and a night at the ballpark?!? That’s a win for sure! And guess who threw the first pitch? Bertie, the LEGO mascot.
During the game, Owen needed to stretch his legs and wander around a little, so Tom and Owen hit the LEGO table to do a little building. Charlie still has not been to the actual LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Philadelphia center in Philly yet, but it’s on our to-do list this winter!
Surprisingly, both boys made it through the entire game and we were able to catch the fireworks after the game!
After a rainy few days, we spent Labor Day at the beach! We decided to check out a new (to us) beach and it will definitely be on the top of our list now for local beaches! Tower Beach, part of Delaware Seashore State Park, charges just $10 per vehicle (we’re out of state).
This beach offers modern bathhouses with showers and changing rooms (pretty much a necessity when beaching with kids). They also have a concession stand/cafe inside that sells lunch items, snacks, and drinks. The beach was not crowded and it was exactly what we needed for some fun!
It’s been a long time since I’ve driven a sedan, but this 2017 Mazda6 Grand Touring was a great one to try! We drove it on highways and little back roads and it does great on both.
During our week together, I averaged 30.2 MPG, which I was very happy with. The car has some great get-up and go to it that makes driving super fun, but enough room to spread out.
Both boys are forward-facing now and as you can see, their car seats fit great. I don’t think we could have got another person between them in the middle seat, but it would be close.
The look of the car is super sleek and immediately makes me think $$! Seriously, I felt like I was driving a luxury vehicle with the leather-trimmed sport seats and the leather-wrapped steering wheel, but the 2017 Mazda6 starts at just $21,945 (Sport). The MSRP of the actual car we drove for the week is $34,530.
The amount of safety features on the Mazda6 are enough to make any mom happy! Features include Smart City Brake Support, Smart Brake Support, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Back-Up Camera and so much more!
I really love the Active Driving Display (the pop-up display above the dash for the driver). Unlike in other vehicles I’ve driven, this included traffic signs, cars in the blindspot, and directions as well as speed. Being able to keep my eyes on the road and still see everything I need to is a big win for mom!
Once the kids were back in school and I had a few mornings with the car by myself, you better believe I opened the sunroof and blasted 90s on 9! Talk about some me-time!
Honestly, the 2017 Mazda6 Grand Touring had me questioning if we really needed an SUV or if a large sedan like this would work. I miss the fun of a smaller vehicle, but at this time we really do need a larger option for trips and hauling the boys and their friends around as they get older.
