Use Your Tax Refund to Save All Year

I haven't actually done our taxes yet (I know, I know), but it's a little harder once you own your own business getting all your stuff together. It's on my to-do list before the end of the month.

I do, however, have some great plans on how we plan to stretch our tax refund and make it work for us, actually saving us money throughout the year!

Purchase an Extra Freezer

Always wanted a freezer? Use your tax refund to “splurge” and get one! While it may seem like a larger investment, it's definitely going to save you money later! Being able to stock up on food when you find a great sale is awesome if you have the space to do it.

This has been a great money-saver for us through the years.

Buy in Bulk

This is one of those things that is easier said than done, right? We often only have enough money to buy what we really need at the time. But when you have a little extra, like that tax refund, you'll usually save money in the long run being in bulk. I don't just just mean bulk sizes, but anytime there is a super sale on something that you will actually use.

The buying in bulk idea kind of goes along with the freezer, but it also holds true for other items like toilet paper, diapers, paper towels, and anything else that has a great sale!

Re-Evaluate your Mobile Plan

I know our phone plan was getting seriously out of hand on our old plan. When we switched to Walmart Family Mobile, we were able to lower our bill and actually get more out of it! Walmart Family Mobile Plus Plan = Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE then 2G plus a free VUDU movie credit every month ($7 value) per line for $49.88.

You can pick up a new phone, like the Samsung Galaxy On5 that I grabbed with the regular price of just $119.00. You can also choose bring your own compatible phone!

Since Family Mobile bills you later, you only have to pay $19.88 when you sign up. There's no crazy activation fee, you just need the SIM Kit to get started!

Invest in a Streaming Device

We are huge fans of our Roku! We have a Roku TV in the family room and a Roku Stick in the play room. Buying a new TV is a great way to put your tax refund to work for you, if done correctly. With our Roku, we're able to stream free movies and shows through lots of channels. This makes it a bit easier to cut your cable, hello money!

And… with the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan, you get a free VUDU movie credit every month ($7 value)! That's enough for a new release rental every month. We use our Roku TV to watch on VUDU.

Being able to have a great family movie night at home is definitely a money-saver! Quality family time is important to us and everyone loves a movie night. With the included VUDU movie credit, it's a built-in family night or even date night!

Pay Services in a Lump Sum

Many services will charge you less if you pay in a lump sum. As much as it hurts to pay it all out at once, it's so much easier on your wallet the rest of the year. Think about things like: heating oil, car insurance, lawn care, gym membership, cleaning services, bus passes, and even your water and electric (some will do an average and charge less that way).

If you have any more ideas for getting the max out of your tax refund cash, I'd love to hear them!

I like your ideas – especially to use the tax refund to buy in bulk. There’s so many opportunities to save when buying in bulk! #client
