We took a trip to Ireland last year, but it was just us. We knew immediately the kids would love it, so this time we brought the kids to Ireland! Day 1 We left the house Monday, August 14th about noon and arrived at Newark International Airport at about 2:30, breezed through security, and sat […]

Mother’s Day is this Sunday. Did you forget? Are you ready? Mother’s Day for us is super simple. We usually go out to breakfast with my mom and then head to my mother-in-law’s after church.
This year, we’re bringing the dessert! I picked up this amazing ice cream cake at Baskin-Robbins. Baskin-Robbins is celebrating moms with a lineup of colorful Rosette ice cream cakes that can personalized just for mom. You can choose from an Elegant Rosette Cake, solid blue with a cascading bouquet of flowers, or a Pink Rosette Cake, an ombre-inspired design with mom’s favorite flavor. Of course, both of these Mother’s Day ice cream cakes can be customized for the Mom in your life (yes, that can be you)!
I ordered online, which is super easy. I just needed to pick my favorite ice cream (Very Berry Strawberry) and cake flavor (chocolate). Cakes can be picked up as early as 24 hours after ordering. You can pre-order your personalized ice cream cake in-store also.
When I stopped in to pick up my ice cream cake for Mother’s Day, I also grabbed a hand-packed quart of May’s Flavor of the Month: Mom’s Makin’ Cookies! It’s delicious (trust me, I had a sample while I was there). Mom’s Makin’ Cookies features brown sugar flavored ice cream with chocolate chip cookie pieces, chocolate flavored chips, and a cookie dough batter flavored ribbon and can be enjoyed in a cup, cone or in a Warm Cookie Sundae.
To make the month for Moms extra sweet, guests can also enjoy an upgrade to a freshly-baked waffle cone when purchasing a double scoop of ice cream!
If you’re wondering where I got that beautiful cake stand for our yummy Pink Rosette ice cream cake, I made it! It was simple to do and I’m showing you how!
First, grab a pizza pan and a pretty coffee mug (check a yard sale, Goodwill, or pick up a new one at Target like I did).
You’re going to spray paint your pizza pan (leave a spot unpainted on the bottom, which is really the top of the pizza pan, big enough for your coffee mug) and let it dry completely for a few days. I went with white because it’s clean and matches everything.
Now, using some super strong craft glue, like E6000, to glue to bottom of your mug to the bottom of your dried pizza pan. Put something heavy, books work well, on top and let it set at least 24 hours.
As an optional step, paint a fun color around the edge of the pizza pan. This does not have to be perfect, it just adds a little something extra. I went with a shimmery pink because it matched my coffee mug. You can use a sealer to coat everything when you are finished painting, but I have not found one that makes it food safe. So, be sure to use cardboard cake bases or wax paper between your food and your DIY Cake Stand.
This DIY Coffee Mug Cake Stand will make a great gift to leave at Mom’s after you’ve enjoyed the ice cream cake! She can use it to serve desserts or just set things on it, like jewelry or other knick knacks.
I’d love to hear your Mother’s Day plans.
