This is a quick and easy craft that will surely give you the feel that Spring may finally be here.

You will need:

  • a toilet paper roll
  • construction paper or cardstock
  • scissors
  • markers
  • a pipe cleaner
  • glue
  • paint
  • paintbrush
  • googly eyes
  • pompoms

Charlie is not quite 3, so I have to help and oversee a lot, but older children would be able to do this on their own.

First, I painted (with Charlieโ€™s help) the toilet paper roll.

paint toilet paper roll

Letting the paint dry, I folded a piece of cardstock in half, drew a heart on it and cut it out. Now I had 2 identical hearts. These will be the wings.

I gave Charlie the Faber – Castell Washable 12 Duo Tip Markers Arts & Crafts that we received in Januaryโ€™s Citrus Lane box. They are really awesome markers that can actually stand up to Charlie pressing down on them super hard. He colored the wings until he was happy with how they looked. This took about 20 minutes for him to color both wings on both sides.

By the time he was done, the toilet paper roll was dry. I put glue on and Charlie pressed down the googly eyes. With the pipe cleaner, I folded it in half and rolled it around my finger. Inside the toilet paper roll, I put a big glob of glue and pushed the pipe cleaner antennae in place.

While those were drying, I put a little glue on the decorated heart wings and Charlie picked out which pompoms he wanted to put on the wings.

Once the wings were finished, I glued them to the back of the toilet paper roll and let it all dry overnight.

Easy craft that Charlie takes pride in and now plays with!
