This week is not just for Valentine’s Day. On February 9th, 2007 I went on a first date.

One of my best friends was trying to set me up with her brother’s best friend since New Year’s Eve. I was not interested in being set-up. We went bowling in a big group for her birthday mid-January and we didn’t talk at all. He seemed weird and shy and I probably came off as a snob.

This was at the bowling party. It’s mostly her fault 🙂

About a week later I asked her for his AIM (remember that?) sn. We began chatting all the time. Like, ALL the time. I was still going to school about 2 hours away and I kept telling him I was coming home for that weekend. He just was not getting the hint. Some more mentions of coming home and he FINALLY got it. We decided we’d go to Hibachi (because it’s my favorite restaurant in the entire world) and see a movie.

We met at the Food Lion parking lot, I hopped in his little red truck and off we went.
If you’re not familiar with a hibachi-style restaurant, they’re family style- 8-10 people around a grill= a little awkward for a first date. After dinner we went to see The Messengers. We both thought it was awful. While walking to the truck, we were talking about not being tired. It was about 9pm by now. We’d had dinner and a movie, a perfectly appropriate first date. Since neither of us was tired, we stopped at Blockbuster (I know… they no longer exist either) to rent a couple movies. We headed back to his house, popped in a movie and talked the whole way through it. When that one was finished, we put another in and continued to talk. By this point it was after 1am. He took me back to my car, kissed me goodnight (he says I kissed him, but I don’t remember that part), and I went home.
The next couple days we found time to see each other while I was home. Officially together since February 11, 2007.

I’d say that first date went pretty well!

I would say that first date went pretty well too. That’s a really nice story and apparently he didn’t think you came off as a snob because he went out with you. 🙂
