Our Car Was Vandalized

Yesterday morning as I went to put something in the back of our SUV, I saw something etched into my vehicle. I was immediately fuming and showed Tom. I grabbed his phone and snapped a pic.

our vandalized car

I have no idea what it says, but it’s not just some key marks. Someone took the time to stand behind my car and scratch something into it. Why? Why would someone set out to damage someone else’s property? It just completely blows my mind that people really do this. We haven’t done anything to anyone in our neighborhood that would cause someone to seek us out.

I do need to say that we live in a not-so-nice townhouse community, but we’ve never had any problems.

After dropping Charlie off at preschool yesterday, we went to the town police to file a report. All that means is that if they by chance catch someone marking cars in this manner or can link it back, we can seek restitution from them. Odds of finding out who did it are slim to none, but better to file it incase there are a string of them.

Tom pointed out that our poor car isn’t even a year old yet.

We did decide that our car was probably picked out because it’s the only vehicle high enough for someone to stand behind without being noticed. That doesn’t make me feel much better about my car being vandalized though.

I feel violated and sad. I know it’s just “stuff”, but it’s my stuff. It’s something that we spend our hard-earned money on every month (and will continue to do so for quite some time).

Has your property been vandalized? How did you feel?

That is so terrible, I am sorry 🙁 it’s such a pain to have to go and deal with getting it fixed especially with kids in tow.

I am so sorry, that is terrible, I don’t understand people who would do this, my friend works in a parking garage and this happens all the time, vandals like to see a nice new car especially I guess it is jealously and meanness and key a car.

Tim and I have both had cars keyed before. I don’t get why people do it and I don’t get how people get away with it (unless its late at night.) Because of these things, I must believe in Karma!

And of course unless you get it fixed you will continue to look at it and get more sad. And it costs money to fix. But keep the receipts with the police report, because you never know what may happen.
