The Shirley Journey

Finding Joy in the Journey

Two Weeks in Ireland with Kids

We took a trip to Ireland last year, but it was just us. We knew immediately the kids would love it, so this time we brought the kids to Ireland! Day 1 We left the house Monday, August 14th about noon and arrived at Newark International Airport at about 2:30, breezed through security, and sat […]

Go See The Song to Renew Hope in Marriage

I received a gift for promoting the film, but opinions are my own.

Movies come out every week. However, there’s a new movie, The Song, coming out tomorrow that I’m very excited to see.

Aspiring singer-songwriter Jed King is struggling to catch a break and escape the long shadow of his famous father when he reluctantly agrees to a gig at a local vineyard harvest festival.  Jed meets the vineyard owner’s daughter, Rose, and a romance quickly blooms. Soon after their wedding, Jed writes Rose “The Song,” which becomes a breakout hit. Suddenly thrust into a life of stardom and a world of temptation, his life and marriage begin to fall apart.

Thank God The Song

I believe that too many people get married nowadays and don’t really think it out. I have a ton of “friends” on my personal facebook page that have been married, divorced, and dating someone new. We’re still so young and I can’t help but feel like they didn’t even give their marriage a shot.

Tom and I dated for 3.5 years before we said “I Do”. I’m sure no one gets married with the thought of divorce, but we know that if we ever do have problems in our marriage, we’ll be seeking help. The Song is offering resources for couples. I love the idea of the Date Night Challenge!

We attend church weekly and just signed up for our first Bible study together. Our group is aimed at younger married couples with small children. I think it’s important to study and socialize with people who are in the same stage of life as you.

Movies with a Christian message are often overlooked and come off as pushy, but this looks like a great movie that everyone will enjoy (who doesn’t love a little country music?) and hopefully walk away with a renewed spirit. Marriage is hard and this movie will bring up issues that real marriages go through, while reminding us that we need to work on our marriage because if you don’t work on relationships, things can fall apart rather quickly.

If you’re not familiar, The Song of Solomon, is a book of the Bible that is comprised of only 117 verses. It’s a book I need to go back and read as an adult now. Often overlooked in Sunday School, the book is racy and contains some pretty graphic sexual imagery. To reimagine this as a film is definitely a different spin on most faith-based films.

The Song is being released tomorrow in theaters nationwide.

Connect with The Song on Facebook, Twitter, and the official movie website.

I agree too on marriage. Its very pressured in Christianity to be married before being in a relationship and I did it and divorced after a few years. I’m happily married now with children but I’m older and understand more the commitment marriage is.

Super theme of movie. Long courtships with a Christian man SHOULD ensure things are better. However, my first one ran off anyway. Happily married now to a wonderful Christian man.

Huh, I”ll have to see this movie. I have issues with today’s marriage… it just seems like there are so many couples who do not take marriage seriously. It’s sad.
