I love SPAM. I realize most people don’t like SPAM, but I don’t think most have really given it a fair shot, either. Remember when I shared my SPAM, Taters and Eggs a couple of months ago? Today I’m sharing another SPAM dish with you!
You know how much we love snacks, but these SPAM Corn Cakes will make a great dinner or lunch, too.
These are simple enough to make, but they do take a little time frying them.
- 1 can Original SPAM
- 1 package of corn muffin mix
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- Heat vegetable oil in large skillet over Medium-High. (should be about ½ inch high)
- Slice SPAM into sticks, I made about 20.
- Prepare corn muffin mix with added sugar.
- Using a toothpick, coat SPAM with batter.
- Drop batter-covered SPAM into frying pan and cook about 2 minutes on each side.
- Cook 6-7 at a time, don't crowd the pan.
- Place on paper towel as they come out to absorb some of the oil.

Sorry for the crappy frying picture, but there’s nothing pretty about frying, especially in my dark kitchen. At least you can see them.
SPAM has a bunch of different varieties you could try these with, but I’m an original fan. Our Hormel box this month included the Black Pepper SPAM. I didn’t try it yet, but I think it’d be pretty tasty with this recipe or my SPAM, Taters and Eggs.
I served with mustard, but ketchup works great as well, of course! Even if you’re not a SPAM fan, like I am, give these SPAM Corn Cakes a shot because they’re basically little corn dogs!

I’m definitely going to try these! I grew up on spam.. spam sandwiches and spam & eggs were among my favorites. Didn’t know until I got older that lots of people actually didn’t like them. Me, I still love them but try to stay away since it isn’t too healthy.

Had a very hard putting the thick batter on with a toothpick and ended up smearing it on with a spoon.
Didnt need the extra sugar, just ok. The batter overwhelmed the Spam. Could be a good thing if ya don’t like Spam. 🙂

Thanks for your feedback! I just kind of drug the Spam through the batter and it seemed to work well for me. Personally, I like sweeter corn cakes, but I know not everyone does. My mom and I are at complete opposite ends of that spectrum.

Not gonna lie, these look awesome! I grew up in Minnesota and SPAM is pretty much a staple in the household. Definitely going to try!

Are you kidding?! I love spam! About the only way I have it though is shredded up with shredded up cheese and mayo to make sandwich spread. I’m going to have to try this, thanks for sharing!

I haven’t had Spam in ages! I need to get two cans, b/c I’m sure I’d end up eating one of them as is! This recipe is nice, I’d like to try it!

I probably shouldn’t admit, but what the heck. I actually love spam. Many years ago there was a hurricane in my country and one of the ration items we received was spam. Fast forward I disregarded it as a food group (choice), but about a year ago I rediscovered it. Now it’s my guilty pleasure. Thanks for sharing the recipe 😀

U.S. Military cooks served Spam a lot. That’s why a lot of men don’t like it. Some Spam haters have only ate the original one fried. Another group believes that only POOR people eat it. A lot of people want to appear to be wealthy. So they try to eat only trendy food. Spam originated in the 1930’s. When was the last time you ever saw Spam advertised in TV?

I do not understand why some Americans hate SPAM. It helped our ancestors survive the Great Depression. It helped save lives in Europe during world war 2. Raw pork has to be shipped to Alaska and Hawaii. It’s more expensive to buy. So SPAM is eaten in large quantities.
A lot of Americans want to appear to be wealthy. So they eat trendy foods and prime cuts of meat. Many consider SPAM to be food only “POOR” people eat. There”s nothing wrong with SPAM. I love it’s various flavors and the turkey one.
