Rock Star at the Cardiologist

If you’ve followed us for a while, you know that Charlie was born with a Congenital Heart Defect. He had his heart repaired at 7 weeks old, but we’ll forever be heading to his cardiologist for check-ups.

This month was the first time we had been in two years. It’s great that we’re on a two year schedule now instead of 6 months or a year like we were at first. I don’t see them ever going more than 2 years between appointments though.

For Charlie’s check-up, he showed up in true rock star fashion, sporting his newest outfit from FabKids.

FabKids May Cardiologist

I love this Denim Rockstar Outfit. Charlie’s three favorite colors are dark blue, orange, and black. This outfit fits all three! The jeans are comfy and fit well, without being too snug or too slouchy. The shirt is super soft and love how bright it is!

If you’re not familiar with FabKids, it’s a monthly subscription for children’s clothing. The great part is that you can choose to skip each month if it’s not in the budget or you don’t find something you like (finding something won’t be the problem though). If you don’t skip, you’ll be charged $29.95 and receive a credit to pick out an outfit for the month.

How FabKids works

It’s really easy to get started and really easy to cancel (but remember, you can skip every month and you won’t be charged).

FabKids May Rock star

Charlie may have looked like a Rock Star at the cardiologist, but he certainly didn’t act like one. Or maybe he did? He refused to let them do the EKG that they need to do. There were tears, screaming and kicking involved. I felt awful trying to hold him down while he was crying, but I really needed them to do the test.

Attempting EKG Cardiologist

Eventually the gave up and his cardiologist came in. We love her and she really can calm down a situation because she’s just that kind of person. She decided that because of the lack of cooperation she wasn’t going to try to do the echocardiogram that we need at each check-up either. She listened to his heart and didn’t hear the slightest murmur this time and said she’d see us in another two years.

Although we got the all-clear this time and skipped the major tests, it would have made my mommy-heart happy to see everything looked great according to the actual tests. I knew this year would be different because he’s 4 now and realizes a little more what’s going on, unlike when he was 2. I’m hoping when he’s 6 that he’ll be cooperative or they’ll have to sedate him to get the tests done.

First of all, what a brave little guy you have. <3 My 3 year old daughter freaks out at regular, normal check-ups. Like she screams holy murder when they even try to weigh her, lol. So I can relate a little. And this FabKids membership sounds so convenient! I am definitely going to check it out. 🙂

He was an angel getting his height and weight. Pretty sure the nurse jinxed us because she said he was so amazing!

Shoot, hopefully he does better at his next check-up. I had open heart surgery when I was five, I have Shone’s syndrome. EKG’s were a yearly thing for me until I was 18. I remember when I was little hating when they ripped the sticky things as I called them off, but i definitely got better and used to the whole thing.
